CORE PASSAGE: Genesis 3:20

No helper or companion was suitable for Adam among the creatures God made, so the Lord caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam. As he slept, God took one of his ribs and made it into a woman (Genesis 2:22).

She was first called “woman” because she was “taken out of man” (Genesis 2:23), but later Adam called her “Eve” (Genesis 3:20) because she was the mother of all living things (Genesis 3:20). The name Eve means “life” or “life-giving.”

Eve (and her husband Adam) disobeyed God and sin entered the world separating us from God (Romans 5:12). However, there is good news! God sent his son Jesus Christ to pay the penalty for our sin so that by believing in Jesus we can have a restored relationship with God (2 Corinthians 5:19).

LIFE LESSONS:

• Temptation can be very attractive.
• Obedience is a choice.
• Wrong thoughts and desires can lead to disobedience.
• We must learn obedience.
• Sin separates us from God, but He has a plan to restore our relationship with Him. God’s Son, Jesus took the punishment for our sin so that when we believe in Him we can have a restored relationship with God.
